The World Boxing Council (WBC) is one of the four major major boxing organizations that sanction world championship fights, with the others being the World Boxing Association (WBO), the World Boxing Organization (WBO), and the International Boxing Federation (IBF). It was founded on Februrary 15, 1963 in Mexico City by a group of 11 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Philippines, United Kingdom, United States, and Venzuela. US Territory Puerto Rico also participated. The WBC currently has 161 member countries, and has nine regional governing bodies.
